I
was introduced to woodturning when I received a small lathe for my sixteenth
birthday. That was eight years ago and I now turn on a Vicmarc VL 300 lathe
imported from Australia. I am self taught although I have studied the techniques
of many turners. In particular I admire the work of Phil Irons, Les Thorne and
Jimmy Clewes. I
have developed my own style and designs aiming to make the most of the natural
grain and colour in the wood. Consequently each piece is unique. Although I turn
in many exotic woods my larger works are increasingly fashioned from locally
sourced hardwoods. I have demonstrated at the Scottish Woodworking Exhibition in the SECC, and in November 2005 and 2006. I demonstrated at the North of England Woodworking Exhibition in Harrogate for the last 3 years. Most of my work is now sold through Scottish galleries although individual commissions are welcomed. A selection of finished pieces is normally available for viewing by prior arrangement. I have been nominated and accepted on to the Register of Professional Turners. More details can be found out about the register here.
